Body language is communication via the movements or attitudes of the body.
If I tap my foot I’m showing impatience. When I kneel or raise my hands to pray, my body language expresses surrender to God. If I jiggle my leg in church my wife elbows me. This “communicates” that I’m distracting people.
Some of us can’t speak a coherent sentence without our hands. We use body language to intensify, reinforce, or magnify the meaning of our words.
When Jesus entered heaven after his resurrection, he SAT DOWN at the right hand of God–to convey a message to us.
The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. (Heb. 1:3)
Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. (Col. 3:1)
Christ’s posture, “seated at God’s right hand,” engraves the image of finality upon our hearts. Jesus is not a priest who stands to offer sacrifices for us—Jesus IS the sacrifice. His body language in heaven trumpets: GOD’s JUSTICE IS SERVED. “It is finished.”
Jesus isn’t seated in his living room. He’s not lolling in his Barcalounger. His posture is vigilant and attentive to his sons and daughters. He is sitting at the “right hand of the Majesty in heaven” to intercede for you.
Therefore he [Jesus] is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them. (Heb. 7:25)
He paid for your redemption 2000 years ago with his own blood. His commanding posture and presence speaks of supreme dominion and compels compliance from human throng, angelic host and demonic horde.
Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. (Romans 8:34)
Now Jesus twines and binds himself to every trial you face to strengthen your relationship with the Father.
For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.” (I Peter 3:12)
Jesus LIVES to synchronize and mobilize heaven and earth’s resources to build up your faith. Christ’s posture and presence say it all: You are a child of the Most High God.
To him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy— to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen. (Jude 1:24-25)
