Controlling Control

Control is the bully we should lose once and for all.

We can’t seem to stop it, though it ruins our health and shreds precious relationships. Our need to control EVERYTHING has become our bread of life, and we meddle as if we possess sovereign foresight.

Control commandeers the cable “remote” and infects our minds with sordid episodes of  WHAT IF?…

What if Our Political Party Loses?

What if He is Unfaithful?

What if Social Security Runs Out?

What if She Leaves Me?

What if Our House Burns Down?

What if the Cat Runs Away?

What if the Kids Gets Sick?

What if Our Car Breaks Down?

What if I Get Cancer?

What if I Fall on the Ice?

News Flash: Control is an illusion! If we don’t “contribute” opinions to family and friends, or if we miss a birthday, forget to Skype, or decide not to eat dinner with someone, they and we will survive.

It’s high time we stop juggling knives, spinning plates, and balancing one-legged on this unstable terrestrial ball–if we want to stay healthy spiritually and mentally.

Give up Control.

Send the bully packing and hand over life-command to God. He does a much better job nurturing destinies than us. Take back the remote and change the channel to God’s Word.

Put the “self” back in “self-control” and let God be God.

Before the mountains were born or you [God] brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting YOU ARE GOD [My emphasis].  (From a prayer of Moses. Psalm 90:2)

(A Prayer of David) “O Lord God of our father Israel, praise your name for ever and ever! Yours is the mighty power and glory and victory and majesty. Everything in the heavens and earth is yours, O Lord, and this is your kingdom. We adore you as being in control of everything. (I Chronicles 29:10-11)
