Son of…

You know the Son of God, Jesus. You’ve heard of the Sons of Thunder, James and John. Do you know who was called the Son of Encouragement?

Most people know him by the name: Barnabas, which means Son of Encouragement in the Greek language. Luke called him a “good man.”

Barnabas was a foundation-builder who helped the apostles establish leadership in the quickly-growing 1st century church. During the apostles’ search for church leadership, God gave Barnabas the wisdom and discernment to introduce them to a man who shared their vision. This man was a former Christian-hater named Paul–who became a preacher, teacher, a missionary, and later an apostle as well.

Being an encourager is the most powerful and influential role in a church body or workplace. People open their hearts to encouragers, and listen to their counsel. Encouragers impart courage and spur their companions to get God’s work done.

Barnabas accepted his role as an ENCOURAGER, and inspired those around him to be confident in God’s direction and guidance—despite all logical apprehensions.

God used an encourager to help plant Paul in his vital “root” ministry—one that continues to transform our lives every day with 13 epistles in the Bible. Romans, 1 Corinthians, 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 Thessalonians, 2 Thessalonians, 1 Timothy, 2 Timothy, Titus, and Philemon.

As Christians, we are all Sons of Encouragement, because Christ lives in us—the source of all inspiration! Impart courage to someone today!

II Cor. 13:11

Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice! Strive for full restoration, encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you.
